About Tailscale VPN
At the moment, all of these apps require you using our VPN to connect to them. This is the easiest but also most secure way to keep our data on the apps private. The only ways to get access would be if someone stole your physical device AND knew your passwords.
The technology I have set our VPN up with is called WireGuard and using an app called Tailscale. You don't need to know how any of it works, but if you're curious: About WireGuard.
What is a VPN?
Many companies run their own "internets" that are accessible only to employees, these networks are examples of VPNs. With a VPN you need to be granted access by the owner of the network, usually in the form of a username and password.
A network can be physically limited (i.e. all the computers are connected by cables that allow them to talk to each other, and only each other) but when the devices aren't always in the same location a VPN is used.
NOTE: You can only be connected to one VPN at a time.
Setting up the VPN
-
Step 1
To install Tailscale on your device you need to get an invite link from me first.
-
Step 2
Once I've sent the invite link to you, it will bring you to the Tailscale website and prompt you to download it.
-
Step 3
Once the app has downloaded, open the file and it should bring up a screen that has a login button. Click the login button and enter your email that you want to use to login with.
-
Step 4
After you enter your email it should ask you to choose which network or tailnet (Tailscale Network) that you want to connect to. Click the one that says davidjardine.github.
-
Step 5
You should now have Tailscale setup and be able to access the JARS servers! Check out the main page to see what services and apps are currently live and ready to use.
